    Dear TES Family:

    First to our AWESOME students….

Let me begin by sending my BIGGEST, BEST HUG to all of you! I certainly wish I could do so in person! Those hugs, fist bumps, high fives, and “Good Morning!” greetings mean the world to me everyday. Normally we would be wrapping up our spring break in anticipation of returning to “finish strong.” While we may not be meeting in our building together, we can still be TROJAN STRONG by doing our part to keep everyone healthy and safe. Please know WE LOVE AND MISS YOU! I encourage you to read or have someone read with you EVERYDAY. You are smart, imaginative, creative, and full of great ideas - use that wonderful brain to keep yourself busy and learning! It is also very important that you GO OUTSIDE to play, run, and exercise as often as you can and of course, don’t forget to WASH YOUR HANDS!

    Parents…

I understand this is a stressful and difficult time for everyone. The last thing we as a school want to do is overburden our families who have more on their plates than ever. Now that the decision to remain closed has been made, we are revising our plans for the remainder of the school year based on the guidance received today from the Alabama State Department of Education. The Take Home Packets that were sent home last week were intended to provide review and practice for the week of March 30 - April 3. We will be contacting you in the next week to give necessary instructions and information for the coming days. Our plan will be a blended model of Take Home Packets and online options for review and practice of standards. Also, you can expect calls and other methods of communication from our fabulous teachers and staff. I know I speak for ALL of the adults in this building when I say WE LOVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN.

As things seem to change almost daily, we will adjust as needed and contact you via phone, mass calls, and our Facebook page. Your patience and understanding will be much appreciated as we go through this together. THANK YOU for all you do to support your incredible students in our school.

    MUCH LOVE TO ALL!

    Mrs. Sims

  • Information on Coronavirus Disease

    TCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,

We want to let you know about our efforts to monitor coronavirus disease 2019, also known as COVID-19. The 2019 novel (or new) coronavirus causes a potentially severe respiratory illness. It was recently identified in China and is now being detected worldwide. Currently, there are no known cases in Alabama. We are coordinating with the Alabama Department of Public Health,
local healthcare authorities, and the State Department of Education to be prepared with the most up-to-date information and guidance involving the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has guidelines in place for anyone who has traveled internationally to certain affected geographic areas. Find more resources about 2019 coronavirus through the Alabama Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control. The CDC also provides specific information for travelers. This information includes a list of areas with the sustained transmission of the virus and/or travel restrictions to the United States.

According to CDC guidance, those returning from China or areas with active community transmission of 2019 coronavirus will have at least some restrictions on their interactions for 14 days after leaving the affected areas. According to ADPH, any students or staff in this group must remain out of school for the duration of this period. On March 5, the Troy City Schools
Board of Education authorized the Interim Superintendent to follow all guidelines and exercise guidance from ADPH regarding the 2019 coronavirus. This includes any amendments to the guidance moving forward. Parents/guardians, faculty, and staff should notify your school’s principal of any upcoming out-of-country travel plans.

In our schools, everyday health practices remain important. We encourage
    our students and staff to:

    • stay home when sick and until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours after
the last administration of fever-reducing medicine.
    • practice frequent hand washing for at least 20 seconds at a time.
    • cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.
    • avoid touching your face, mouth, nose, and eyes.
    • avoid being around those who are sick.

Although it will not prevent coronavirus, a flu shot is still recommended for those who have not had one this flu season. Ample cleaning supplies are in our schools and our custodians disinfect high-contact surfaces. Plans are currently being finalized for a meeting in the coming days, among local healthcare and education leaders, to discuss monitoring and prevention of 2019 novel coronavirus.

Families can stay up to date on 2019 novel coronavirus and recommended actions through the Centers for Disease Control and Alabama Department of Public Health. If new information results in how our schools respond to 2019 novel coronavirus, TCS will communicate this information to you.

    Sincerely,
    Cynthia Thomas
    Interim Superintendent
