Mr. Zander Westphal is the CHMS Band Director. He works alongside CHHS Band. 

About our CHMS Band Director:

Zander Westphal is an active saxophonist and conductor with an emphasis in chamber music. Mr. Westphal currently holds a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from the University of South Alabama. Zander serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Gulf Coast Chamber Ensembles. In addition to his duties as the Executive Director, Mr. Westphal conducts the saxophone ensemble, woodwind ensemble, and jazz ensemble. Under his direction, the organization has premiered music from composers across the planet. 

Mr. Westphal has performed with the Appalachia Wind Symphony, Baldwin Pops, and Mobile Pops. Zander has served as the principal saxophonist of the University of South Alabama Wind Ensemble. He has served as the soprano saxophone chair of the Gulf Coast Saxophone Quartet and has performed as the soprano saxophonist of the University of South Alabama Saxophone Quartet. He was invited to perform in the 2023 Alabama Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble at the Alabama Music Educator’s Association held in Birmingham, Alabama. As a composer, Mr. Westphal's saxophone quartet composition entitled Magma was selected to be performed at the 2023 College Music Society National Conference. As a soloist, Zander has premiered works by Sabrina Schantz and Giuseppe Parmigiani. He was involved in a consortium to perform Katahj Copley’s new work for soprano saxophone, percussion, and piano entitled Gradient. Zander will serve as a performer of new music for the College Music Society Southern Conference in February 2025 in Mount Berry, Georgia.
