  • Senior Transcripts

All seniors were asked to respond to a senior survey.  One of the questions on the survey asked for the name of the university, trade school, etc. where the senior's final transcript was to be sent.  Many seniors have not yet responded with that information.  Seniors, please provide Mrs. Tate with that information.  If you don't have access to the survey, you may email Mrs. Tate at tatea@troyschools.net with the information.  Please make sure your email contains your name and the name of the institution where you want your transcript sent.

    Dear Trojan Family,

Per the Troy City Schools Academic Continuity Plan, the final course grade for second-semester courses will be the third-nine weeks' grade. Students currently failing the third-nine week period will be given every opportunity to improve that grade. Each student who is currently failing will be contacted by their teacher and an individual plan will be prepared to ensure they are given the opportunity to successfully complete the course.

As always, we will begin the next school year by assessing our students' needs and meeting them where they are to help them succeed. Additionally, due to the lack of continuity of high school courses and semesters, we will provide some enrichment in critical standards to meet the students' needs over the next nine weeks. Student participation is crucial in order to prepare for future academic coursework. Each teacher will be available for students daily and respond to all communication in a timely manner.  If any student is in need of a Chromebook or paper copies of assignments please contact your teacher so we can make this happen.

Students enrolled in AP courses will have the opportunity to take their exams in an online format. The exams will cover the material that most schools were able to cover before March and will be comprised of a 45-minute free-response question. Students may access the AP YouTube Channel for live classes and recordings covering the content found on these new exams. Exam dates and information regarding the submission of exams will be posted on the AP College Board website on April 3 and communicated to students by their teachers starting April 6.

Seniors, the Troy City Schools Academic Continuity Plan states that seniors who are on track to graduate and in good standing as of the third-nine weeks reporting period will be considered “as meeting the graduation requirements” for the State of Alabama. Those students who are enrolled in a fourth nine weeks class that was not offered in the third nine-week period, like Economics, must still complete the assignments given to receive that credit which is needed for graduation. Students enrolled in the Ready to Work or MSSC classes will also need to complete their work in order to credential and complete the program. Seniors who are not on track to graduate will be given the opportunity for credit recovery. The ALSDE has waived all testing requirements due to the pandemic; therefore, successful completion of the Civics Exam is not a requirement for this year’s graduation.

I am beyond thankful for each and every one of you and know we can get through these uncertain times together!

    Sincerely,

    Lise Fayson

    Principal

    Charles Henderson High School

  • Dear Trojan Family,

Most of you have already heard that the remainder of our school year will look a little different than we had originally planned! Nothing is impossible when you have the faculty, staff, students, and parents that we have at Charles Henderson High School. The next few weeks will be filled with innovative, fun, and creative ways to educate our students and finish the 2019-2020 school year strong! While we will miss seeing each of your faces everyday remember that if we all follow the guidelines set out by Governor Ivey we will be back together again soon. In the next week we will be contacting everyone with instructions and guidelines for how the rest of our school year will look. It is imperative that all students join the correct Google Classroom for each class for which they are enrolled and check their school email account regularly.  We will also be using other methods of communication to reach our students and parents such as: calls, text messages, Remind, website updates, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

As things are changing daily we will adjust as needed and be in contact with each of you regularly. We are here to support each and every one of you in whatever your needs may be at this time! Students, we love and miss each one of you! Seniors, we will do everything in our power to celebrate you and all of your accomplishments! Be patient and kind to others during this time... but most of all BE GREAT!

    Love,

    Mrs. Fayson

  • Information on Coronavirus Disease

    TCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,

We want to let you know about our efforts to monitor coronavirus disease 2019, also known as COVID-19. The 2019 novel (or new) coronavirus causes a potentially severe respiratory illness. It was recently identified in China and is now being detected worldwide. Currently, there are no known cases in Alabama. We are coordinating with the Alabama Department of Public Health,
local healthcare authorities, and the State Department of Education to be prepared with the most up-to-date information and guidance involving the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has guidelines in place for anyone who has traveled internationally to certain affected geographic areas. Find more resources about 2019 coronavirus through the Alabama Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control. The CDC also provides specific information for travelers. This information includes a list of areas with the sustained transmission of the virus and/or travel restrictions to the United States.

According to CDC guidance, those returning from China or areas with active community transmission of 2019 coronavirus will have at least some restrictions on their interactions for 14 days after leaving the affected areas. According to ADPH, any students or staff in this group must remain out of school for the duration of this period. On March 5, the Troy City Schools
Board of Education authorized the Interim Superintendent to follow all guidelines and exercise guidance from ADPH regarding the 2019 coronavirus. This includes any amendments to the guidance moving forward. Parents/guardians, faculty, and staff should notify your school’s principal of any upcoming out-of-country travel plans.

In our schools, everyday health practices remain important. We encourage
    our students and staff to:

    • stay home when sick and until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours after
the last administration of fever-reducing medicine.
    • practice frequent hand washing for at least 20 seconds at a time.
    • cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.
    • avoid touching your face, mouth, nose, and eyes.
    • avoid being around those who are sick.

Although it will not prevent coronavirus, a flu shot is still recommended for those who have not had one this flu season. Ample cleaning supplies are in our schools and our custodians disinfect high-contact surfaces. Plans are currently being finalized for a meeting in the coming days, among local healthcare and education leaders, to discuss monitoring and prevention of 2019 novel coronavirus.

Families can stay up to date on 2019 novel coronavirus and recommended actions through the Centers for Disease Control and Alabama Department of Public Health. If new information results in how our schools respond to 2019 novel coronavirus, TCS will communicate this information to you.

    Sincerely,
    Cynthia Thomas
    Interim Superintendent
