Press Release from Interim Superintendent

Press Release from Interim Superintendent

March 16, 2020

Dear TCS Parents and Guardians:

Please understand the timing of the closure of schools and the decision to release in the middle of the week was declared by Governor Kay Ivey. These decisions were beyond our control as they were mandated by Governor Ivey. Since the declaration, our administrative team and teachers have worked diligently to continue ensuring our students' safety and well-being. I shared my concerns related to attendance for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. As a result, the decision has been made at the state level to excuse students absent on Monday, March 16- Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

However, I would like your assistance in order for us to continue educating our students during this extended school closure. Our administrators and teachers have worked to prepare enrichment and review packets as well as provide online resources for ALL K-12 students. The packets will be provided to students at the end of the day on Monday, March 16, 2020. For those students who were absent on Monday, parents/guardians may stop by the front office on Tuesday and Wednesday between 8:00-2:00 pm to receive a packet.

Additionally, during the school closure, we will post links to academic resources on our school and district websites. We hope you will support our efforts in making sure our students continue to make academic progress during the school closure period. Furthermore, we also understand the need for our Child Nutrition Program (CNP) to assist with student meals during the school closure. A meal will be provided to any child ages 18 and under at Troy Elementary School on March 19, March 20, and March 30, 2020, from 11:00 am-1:00 p.m. After, Monday, March 30 we will reassess to determine whether there is a need in the community to continue to provide meals for the remaining days that week.

I would like to thank the Troy City Board of Education and the TCS family for your continued
support as we maneuver our way through such a critical time for our nation, state, and local
communities. I assure you that your cooperation and understanding of decisions being made is greatly appreciated.

Mrs. Cynthia G. Thomas,
Interim Superintendent
