Letter from Mrs. Fayson re: School Reopening

Dear Trojan Family,

It has been an honor to serve as the principal of Charles Henderson High School during the 2019-2020 school year and I am excited to embark on the upcoming year! While we are still unsure of how things will look during this pandemic, we have been working diligently at Charles Henderson High School to ensure our students remain safe during the reopening of the 2020-2021 school year. We ask for your patience and understanding during this process as no plan will be perfect for everyone.

We will be offering three learning options for the upcoming school year. The first option will be a traditional setting. For this option the student will attend all classes on campus in a traditional face to face format. Option two will be a virtual option where students will be enrolled in virtual classes through Edmentum, Access, Google Classroom, or Schoology. For the virtual option students will not take classes on campus. Once a student begins the virtual option they must commit to it for the entire semester. Option three will be a blended option where students will enroll in an individualized schedule that will allow for both virtual and traditional courses to be taken in one semester. While the student will choose which courses they would like to take both on and off campus and virtually they will not be able to choose which block their on-campus classes will be taken.

The Charles Henderson High School leadership team has been working on a plan to ensure the safety of those students and staff who will be on campus during the 2020-2021 school year. Our goal is to ensure that in our classrooms student desks will be at least 6 feet apart. Desks will be cleaned and sanitized between each class. Door handles and hand rails will be sanitized between blocks.  During transition times there will be a one way traffic flow in all buildings. Students will be screened every morning with a touchless thermometer and there is protocol in place for those with high readings. We will also be limiting the sharing of classroom items and supplies. Students will be eating lunch in their classroom for the first semester.

Each student will be required to have a face mask with them at all times on campus. Face masks will be mandatory during transition times in hallways, in bathrooms, and anytime there is less than 6 feet between people. One reusable face mask will be provided for each student who has chosen to attend classes on campus. Students who are not comfortable wearing face masks will have the option of virtual classes. Those students who do not comply with the Charles Henderson Henderson High School safety protocol will be disciplined accordingly.

Drop off and pick up procedures will be changed for the first semester. Students will not be allowed on campus for drop off before 7:15 a.m. Once they are dropped off on campus they must social distance and remain outside until 7:45 a.m. when they will enter their classrooms. During this time, breakfast will be offered for students and they will be able to pick up a grab and go or eat in the cafeteria as long as space is available. Seats in the cafeteria will be marked off during breakfast to ensure social distancing.

We thank you for your patience during this time!
